An Ole Miss student named Ben LeClere was suspended after he posted a photo of himself and 2 other men standing with guns in front of Emmett Tills roadside plaque that has been filled with bullet holes. The plaque commemorates the spot where Emmett Tills body was discovered after being brutally beaten to death by White men who believed Till whistled at a White woman. The men that killed Emmett Till were later acquitted by an all-white jury. It is not clear whether or not the men in the photo are the ones who shot the plaque. There have been several attempts to contact the men seen in the photo but so far there has been no response from either of them. Apparently, LeClere posted the photo on John Lowe’s Instagram page and it received hundreds of likes.
It is important o note that the three men involved belonged to a fraternity that calls General Robert E. Lee their “spiritual founder. Supposedly, Kapa Alpha has suspended all three of them but I believe it is only do to the pressure that as been on the fraternity by news organizations. I would not be surprised if the fraternity allows them back in after the story loses dies down a bit.
